US-based Gen 2 RFID solutions provider Impinj has announced that NEC Corporation is deploying its Speedway RFID reader in a new RFID system that increases RFID tag throughput in manufacturing and inventory control applications.
Scheduled for worldwide availability before the end of 2006, NEC''s RFID gate system combines NEC''s proprietary radio wave reflection technology with Impinj''s high-performance RFID readers. 116.30.145.87 This article is copyright 2006 UsingRFID.com.
Gate system
The gate system, which interrogates multiple RFID tags simultaneously to produce accurate supply chain data, targets various RFID-enabled supply chain management applications such as inspection systems in manufacturing lines and inventory control systems.
According to Dimitri Desmons, vice president of RFID marketing at Impinj, "The tag throughput rates and data accuracy achieved with the combination of our technology and NEC''s latest innovation can benefit the growing number of RFID-based supply chain management systems."
Common goal
"Impinj and NEC share a common goal to deliver the highest performance, most reliable RFID technology that dramatically improves supply chain operations," said Kazunari Egami, General Manager of NEC''s Control Systems Division. "Impinj''s Speedway reader is an ideal platform to support that goal because it exhibits good performance, is guaranteed to be interoperable with other certified RFID hardware, and is easy to integrate into solutions such as NEC''s new gate system."
The Speedway reader achieves read-reliability with throughput exceeding 1000 tags per second in typical supply chain environments, and 200 tags per second in dense reader environments with up to eight interfering readers. It also features a mono-static antenna design for high performance. Available immediately, Speedway carries both EPCglobal''s Gen 2 Conformance Certification Mark and EPCglobal''s Gen 2 Interoperability Certification Mark.
