In a bid to strengthen its position within the transportation sector, the RFID technology firm Alien Technology has acquired integration services and project management firm Quatrotec, which is focused on commercial aviation and other transportation markets.

Quatrotec will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary, reporting to Robert J. McKinley, vice president of business development for transportation markets at Alien Technology. (McKinley was formerly the director of security and airport systems at San Francisco International Airport.)

In acquiring Quatrotec, Alien expands its ability to address air, sea, ground and homeland security-related RFID applications of almost any scope and scale. Serving the air transportation industry for more than 20 years in projects ranging from US$1 million to more than US$200 million, Quatrotec has design and implementation expertise in such specialised areas as airport security systems, baggage handling systems, passenger services and terminal operations.
