As part of the US Government''s initiative to improve efficiency and inventory asset management, Intermec Technologies Corporation has been awarded a Blanket Purchasing Agreement (BPA) to provide passive UHF RFID fixed-mounted and transportable RFID readers to support the Department of Defense and the US Coast Guard.
All equipment supplied will be firmware-upgradeable to Generation 2 RFID standard, following the company''s earlier BPA award to provide EPC Class 1 RFID tags. Back in 2004,
Intermec was also named prime contractor on a five-year contract to provide an entire range of automatic identification technologies. Under terms of the new contract, Intermec will provide fixed-mounted and transportable commercial UHF passive EPC Class 0/1 multi-protocol RFID readers, along with other related equipment. According to Intermec''s president, Tom Miller, "This award allows us to move one step closer to bringing the full capabilities of RFID supply chain process improvement to the Department of Defense."
