US and European libraries order 4 million RFID labels

2011/11/29

The French RFID technology firm ASK is set to deliver some 4 million RFID smart labels for US and European libraries, after entering into a strategic partnership with the library system provider Bibliotheca to offer clients a complete RFID-based library system.

ASK was chosen by Bibliotheca to supply its C.label RFID smart paper label for use in American and European public libraries. The labels are based on ASK''s core technology of a printed 13.56Mhz silver ink antenna on paper, and direct flip-chip embedding process. 116.30.151.81 This article is copyright 2005 UsingRFID.com.

The company''s high capacity manufacturing chain, combined with low cost materials, offer libraries a cost-effective label for books, CDs, DVDs and video tapes. ASK has already supplied labels and readers to more than 20 French, Italian and German libraries over the past four years.

"ASK has been dedicated to RFID since its creation, and Bibliotheca is dedicated to libraries, so our products and expertise are complementary," said Alain Jiongo, RFID library project manager for ASK.

Bibliotheca will provide the back office and implementation, including security gates, self check-in/check-out stations, automatic book return and sorting systems. ASK will also provide its C.scan hand held RFID readers for inventory, OEM readers for each station, and RFID labels suitable for each type of library asset that needs to be tagged.
